Video Games That Help Train And Exercise Your Brain

Videos games have been around for almost 50 years now and are still taking over people’s lives ‘till this day. Many young teens today play videos games to interact and socialise with their friends online but tend to play games that are not highly educational and beneficial for them; instead we should be spending our time effectively, playing more games that benefit our lives. Games that are more productive to help increase our understanding and knowledge which stimulate our brain and increase our IQ (intelligence quotient). These games include 2048, Personal Zen and Lumosity.

2048

2048 is a very addicting math-based puzzle game that is available on Android, iOS and PC for free and is suitable for everyone, especially for young teens that like to solve math problems. This fascinating game encourages math skills, as well as promoting strategic planning to maximize playing time before you’re out of moves.

This game is very easy to learn, although it is often really tough to master. The objective of the game is to slide numbered tiles on a grid and combine them to create a tile with the number 2048.

2048 is a well-known popular game and is also receiving great reviews and recognition. For instance, PCadvisor1 rated the game 8/10 and has also stated, “2048 could be the most addictive puzzle game for iOS and Android ever made,” (Ashleigh Macro, 2014). Social media and online gaming circles have also taken note about the game and have also said, “It stimulates your brain while also challenging you to keep aiming higher,” (FreeAppGG2, 2015).

We personally recommend this game because it is less time consuming and it allows us to try out our own different techniques and strategies in order to solve the numbers. Although it is sometimes challenging, we can still have fun and train our brain at the same time.

Personal Zen

‘Personal Zen’ is a free app which is made for iOS. The game starts off with a grassy green field, with two blue faces (one happy and one angry), and then buries themselves in the grass, then a line of taller grass pops up. Your objective is to trace that line with your finger.

This app is generally made to reduce stress and anxiety and is even proven by a newly published study in Clinical Psychological Science, suggesting that attention modification training helps lower anxiety levels. “The goal is to train your brain to focus on the non-threatening stimulus, in this case the happy face, but here you have barely a second before both faces disappear” (Cnet3). Research has shown that you need at least 25 minutes for the full benefits of reduced stress and anxiety levels to actually work. This app also has great recognition from websites such as AppSafari4, which rated ‘Personal Zen’ 4 out of 5 and have stated, “This app is good for use in time of distraction or when it’s very nervous; overall this is great for relaxing.”

Personal Zen is a fantastic app, we truly suggest this game because it lowers your stress and anxiety levels to the point where you feel relieved. It is also a simple and less complicated game which also calms down your brain. If you ever feel stressed because of your school work or because of your work, play a few minutes of Personal Zen to reduce your stress. Stress can change your behaviour and productivity sonny reducing it you may be more productive in your work.

Lumosity

Lumosity-Brain Training is a free online app that features in both iOS and Android. It has 3 game exercise types: problem solving, memory and flexibility of thinking. These exercises will help you improve your overall knowledge and train your brain even faster. This app has great aspects to improve your memory, ability to think faster, puzzle/equation solving and concentration.

According to PCmag.com, “The app has a neat range of games, but not all are deeply stimulating to be perfect” (Jill Duffy5, 2013). Although, some features are lacking, Lumosity still provides the essentials to improve individual performances overall. This app helped many users around the world to increase their math and mental skills, stated by a reddit user, “I will say this, my mental math skills have improved quite a bit since there are games that require you to quickly solve simple solution” (Reddit6, 2014).

Lumosity is a fabulous app and we absolutely recommend this for teens that want to train their brain and develop a more efficient way to advance their skills to the next level. Next time, when you feel you need some help with any work, specifically math related, hop on Lumosity and they will give you great advice and guidance.

Overall, these games are all free and appropriate to play, so we definitely recommend trying out these games for more improvement for your education and learning purposes. These particular games are all supported by Apple and Android so that makes it much more accessible which allows you to play them anywhere and anytime on your mobile device.
